Job Description:
Research Electronics Engineer – Aerospace to support R&D and engineering projects with U.S. Government and private industrial customers in the fields of Automatic Target Recognition (ATR), image processing and signal processing in support of LADAR, RADAR and other sensor systems.
Person will work both at the corporate office in Cincinnati, and also on-base at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) in Dayton/Fairborn, Ohio.
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is one of the largest, most diverse and complex installations in the Air Force, encompassing approximately 11,000 civilian positions.
Small, high technology R&D focused company conducting state-of-the-art research in a range of areas including automatic target recognition utilizing radar, LADAR, image, vibrometry and other data types, health monitoring of turbine engines and other assets, nondestructive inspection data management and mining, mechatronic product development and others.
Opportunity provides a close, informal, small-company environment that enables capable, inspired, innovative researchers to thrive.
The Research Electronics Engineer will work in a team environment in the following areas:
- Automatic Target Recognition (ATR)
- Develop ATR algorithms using multi-discriminant LADAR (3d shape, polarimetric and multi-spectral) sensor data to identify obscured targets
- LADAR
- Assess the contribution to ATR separability of multi-discriminant LADAR sensing modes (3D shape, polarimetric, multi-spectral and vibrometry)
- Radar ATR performance estimation
- Implement feature extraction algorithms for HRR and SAR signatures (both synthetic and measured) in MATLAB and C++ Model signature non-determniism in HRR/SAR data
- Design signal processing techniques and similarity metrics for HRR/SAR data
- Estimate ATR performance using parametric/non-parametric algorithms
- Identify salient signature features and project them onto CAD models
- Improvement and Acceleration of Satellite Imagery Processing approaches
- Work with Tier 1 major defense contractors to develop parallel processing approaches to accelerate processing of satellite surveillance imagery
- Implement new processing algorithms on parallel processing systems
- Develop and implement detection and classification algorithms for distributed fiber optic sensor systems
- Work with a fast-paced, venture-funded startup to develop and implement detection and classification algorithms for distributed fiber optic sensor systems
- Commercial applications of interest include perimeter security, asset monitoring, down-hole oil well monitoring to improve recovery, pipeline leak detection and others
Specific project opportunities include:
- Signal processing and sensing development for a game changing turbine engine bearing health monitoring approach
- Teaming with a commercial customers R&D group to develop next generation, smart process sensors
- Development of image/video processing approaches to monitor product quality on high speed production lines, or to optimize transmission of information from low power, unattended ground sensors.
Outstanding benefit and reward program.
Customer list includes: AFRL, The U.S. Navy, SAIC, Ball Aerospace, Emerson Electric, Proctor and Gamble and many other government and commercial entities.
Job Requirements:
Background Requirements:
Ph.D. or MS + experience in the fields of engineering or possibly CS/Physics/Applied Mathh Experience or academic training in the fields of signal processing, image processing, automatic target recognition, including statistical pattern recognition, feature extraction and signature modeling.
Proficient with contemporary engineering/R&D computer tools; MATLAB, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance
Additional Experience of Interest:
- Experience with signature modeling tools such as Xpatch and Irma
- Experience with radar, LADAR and other data and sensor systems
- Advanced computer and programming skills including C/C++, Linux/Unix operating systems, MPI, OpenMP, MKL, Map Reduce
- Familiarity with AFRL programs and needs in fields of ATR and signature exploitation
- Track record of maintaining successful relationships with a variety of R&D customers, particularly in the ATR field
- History of presentations and publications in the ATR field
- Existing security clearance up to TS/SCI
